Description

Fantastic semi-glossy 8.5 x 12 silver gelatin photo of Marine Corps Major John Glenn smiling next to his Vought F-8 Crusader after his record-breaking transcontinental flight, signed and inscribed in black felt tip, "To Alan—with best regards, and many thanks—John Glenn, 3-26-01.” Attractively matted and framed to an overall size of 15.5 x 18.75. In fine condition. On the morning of July 16, 1957, Glenn strapped into an F8U-1P jet aircraft and took off from Los Alamitos Naval Air Station in California. Three hours, 23 minutes, and 8.4 seconds later, he touched down at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, New York, setting a transcontinental speed record of 725.55 mph. The feat put Glenn on the radar just before selections would be made for the first class of astronauts.
