Description

This original case of 1983 Topps Grocery Rack packs once held 192 of the three individual pack grocery racks. This 17.5 x 17.5 x 11.5 case is opened and still contains 134 of the original 192 racks, many with stars visible. It is interesting that the outer carton was designed to be opened a certain way, with the various box tops becoming the point of purchase (POP) display, complete with colorful backdrop and eight open sections to hold the grocery rack packs. Giant letters reading "Topps BASEBALL the Real one! PICTURE CARDS BUBBLE GUM," supported by a bright red backdrop, entice children to buy the unpriced rack packs, which each contain 36 cards. With 134 of the original packs remaining, there are 4,824 cards contained within, possibly featuring Hall of Famers Wade Boggs, Ryne Sandberg, or Tony Gwynn rookie cards. Actual stars showing on top include: Pete Rose, Carlton Fisk (2), Ozzie Smith, Rod Carew (3), Reggie Jackson (2), Carl Yastrzemski (2), Eddie Murray, and Robin Yount, while Willie McGee RC, Tom Seaver, and Tony Perez are shown on the back. The outer box has the usual factory tape for shipping, with the inside POP display remaining in excellent condition, with light peripheral wear, and a few moderate corner splits of an inch or two. For the old time collector, the original mailing label is still attached to the outer case, and was originally shipped to Steve Myland, Phoenix, AZ a long-time buyer and seller of unopened cases. This original factory partial case, is one of the more colorful Topps displays created during this time period, and would make a fun conversation piece for the man cave.
