Joseph Theodore Dickman (1857-1927) was a United States Army officer who saw service in five wars, rising to the rank of major general. When the Third Army was established in 1918, Pershing placed it under Dickman's command. The Third Army's goal was to advance to the Rhein and hold the Coblenz bridgehead, then prepare to serve after the war as the Army of Occupation of the Rhineland. A unique and important association copy of Pershing's memoirs of the war, in which Dickman is mentioned a total of fifteen times.
