Union general (1830-1909) who participated at Gettysburg and commanded the Army of Tennessee during Sherman’s March to the Sea. ALS signed “O. O. Howard, Major-Gen'l, U.S. Army (Retired),” one page, 5.25 x 8.25, personal letterhead, June 12, 1899. Letter to George Wettach, in part: "By sending to Miss Emma Dougherty, 5 Clinton Place, New York, you can procure a photograph if you so wish." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Howard's hand.
