Matte-finish 7.5 x 9.5 photo of Wayne as he appeared in one of his later Western films, signed and inscribed in black felt tip, "Bill, Stay happier than I look in this picture, John Wayne, 1978." Double-matted and framed to an overall size of 12.5 x 15.5. In fine condition. The original recipient of the photo, Bill Kelly, was a prolific journalist and author who conducted an interview with Wayne on November 28, 1978; the interview was the last movie legend ever gave, as Wayne died on June 11 of the following year. The interview, conducted at the actor's home, was published in South Bay magazine in July 1981 and in Kelly's book/CD Empty Saddles. Accompanied by several pieces of documentation, including a copy of the interview as published in the magazine, a CD copy of Empty Saddles, and 23 color reprints of photos taken at Wayne's home on the day of the interview.
