Description

Howard on the 1895 Christian Endeavor Army convention—"I am delighted to have the young people come together in Boston fifty thousand strong"

Union general (1830-1909) who participated at Gettysburg and commanded the Army of Tennessee during Sherman’s March to the Sea. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, May 6, 1895. Written from Burlington, Vermont, a letter to F. E. Clark, in full: "Your kind letter is at hand. I will write you such an article as you desire as soon as I can prepare it. I only arrived in Burlington Friday last from the far west, so that your letter had not found me. I am delighted to have the young people come together in Boston fifty thousand strong and hope they will be the means of converting many souls during their visit. Personally, I do not like to go to those large gatherings. I think I am better fitted for smaller companies. I feel grateful to you for all you have done in the Master's service and hope we will make you still abundantly useful in his work." In very good condition, with overall wrinkling, and show-through, from old mounting remnants on the reverse.
