Desirable first edition book: Franny and Zooey by J. D. Salinger. First edition. Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1961. Hardcover with dust jacket (with $4.00 price on flap), 5.75 x 8.25, 201 pages. Book condition: VG+/VG. Salinger's two short stories, 'Franny' and 'Zooey,' first appeared separately in the New Yorker in 1955 and 1957. They were then published together in book form in 1961, and Salinger's famously private nature is apparent even in this first edition of the work—on the dust jacket flap is the author's note: 'It is my rather subversive opinion that a writer's feelings of anonymity-obscurity are the second most valuable property on loan to him during his working years.'
