Vintage sepia matte-finish 14 x 11 photo of the young Jean Arthur posing with a Saint Bernard, neatly signed and inscribed in fountain pen using her given name, "To my Grandmother, With a very great admiration and much love, Gladys.” Blindstamped in the lower right corner by noted Paramount photographer Eugene Robert Richee. In very good to fine condition, with small defects to the borders, including some loss to the top edge, all easily matted out. Born Gladys Georgianna Greene, the actress took on the name 'Jean Arthur' after being discovered by Fox Film Studios while she was doing commercial modeling in New York City in the early 1920s. A remarkable oversized portrait of the charming comedienne.
