Two TLSs, each one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, dated 1955 and 1957. The first, dated January 28, 1955, in part: "It makes me happy to know that you and Mrs. Browne have read and liked some of my books. Perhaps the reason why I am not very good at letter writing is that wherever I am I usually am sitting most of the day crouched over a typewriter. Writing other than this is a task I often cannot face. Still, it is gratifying to get letters like yours and I do thank you." The second, dated February 21, 1957, in part: "I hope you won't think that I am being ungracious when I say that I really have not a photograph that I can send you. I rarely have a new one done and I always have thought that the sending out of photographs has been so commercialized by the motion picture industry that it has no real meaning." In very good to fine condition, with some light toning, and staple holes to the upper left corners. Accompanied by both original mailing envelopes.
