American politician (1760-1833) who succeeded Alexander Hamilton as Secretary of the Treasury under Washington and Adams, and went on to serve as governor of Connecticut. ALS signed “Oliv: Wolcott,” one page, 5 x 8, no date. Letter to Philip Hone, in part: "I have rec'd your note inviting me to attend a public dinner to meet James Maury Esq, by a number of the Citizens of New York. This meeting would revive many ancient recollections and would afford me much pleasure which I am however compelled to decline by age & infirmity." In fine condition, with a few light stains in the signature area.
