May of South Carolina, in full: "Thank you for your letter of March 19 stating your continued interest in the appointment of Charles E. Simons, Jr. as United States District Judge for the Eastern District of your state. You may be sure that Mr. Simons' qualifications are receiving our careful consideration." In fine condition. Just over a year later, Simons was nominated by President Lyndon B. Johnson to a seat on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of South Carolina.
