American politician (1882-1947) who was mayor of New York City from 1934 to 1945. TLS signed “F. LaGuardia,” one page, 5.5 x 8.5, personal letterhead, December 16, 1933. Letter to William Jay Schieffelin, chairman of the Citizens Union, in part: "In order to expedite the transaction of public business at meetings of the Board of Estimate and Apportionment during the next four years, I am writing to ask for your suggestions on methods of improving the procedure of those meetings. From my own former experience when a member of the Board I know that citizens, civic organizations and public officials have long suffered from the interminable delays, the repetition and excessive length of Board of Estimate discussions. I should like to make those delays a thing of the past." In fine condition, with some areas of faint toning.
