American playwright, screenwriter, novelist, and short-story author (1913-1984) best known for his novels The Young Lions and Rich Man, Poor Man. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, May 9, 1947. Letter to writer and critic Lewis Mumford, in part: "What you say about American writers lacking moral standards against which to measure their ideas is, unfortunately, true. And even more unfortunately, this lack is not because they are writers, but because they are citizens of a time in which those standards no longer prevail." In fine condition, with toning along the edges.
