James Garner's screen-worn black Stetson cowboy hat from the 1978 made-for-television Western film The New Maverick, in which Garner reprised his role as Bret Maverick, first played in the Maverick television series that aired on ABC from 1957 to 1962. The black fur hat is size 7 3/8 and features the colorful Stetson emblem emblazoned at the top of the white satin lining. Gilt-stamped on the black leather headband are a Stetson maker's mark, "XXXXX Stetson," and "King's Western Wear, Inc., Van Nuys, California." Wrapped around the exterior is a thin black-and-gray hatband ribbon secured by a small metal buckle. In fine condition. The New Maverick served as the pilot for a failed series, Young Maverick, which was canceled after six episodes and featured Garner only briefly at the beginning of the first. Garner would later star in Bret Maverick, another attempt at a revival of the television series in 1981. A desirable screen-used piece of Western-wear from the wardrobe of the popular actor.
