The Beatles Yesterday and Today stereo 'third state' butcher cover (Capitol, 1966). This 'third state' version features the 'butcher' cover, the previously affixed 'trunk' cover pasteover having been carefully removed from the album jacket to reveal the butcher cover underneath. In very good to fine condition, with some light edge wear and chipping, and a very light layer of adhesive residue evident. The record and original Capitol inner sleeve are both included as is a copy of Capitol's recall letter. Within days of releasing this miscellany of previous hits, Capitol recalled all copies in response to retailers' negative reactions to the original macabre cover image. The recalled copies were 'retrofitted' with a new pictorial flat, pasted over the first, featuring an innocuous image of the boys posed around a steamer trunk; these have frequently been peeled away by collectors to reveal the infamous butcher image below. Stereo covers are much rarer than the mono versions as they were produced in far fewer quantities.
