TLS as president, one page, 8 x 10.5, White House letterhead, June 5, 1942. Letter to C. Gerard Dodge in New York, in part: "Your interest in the retention of Colonels Clement and Crawford as military heads of the New York and Boston Army Ordnance Districts, respectively, is greatly appreciated. However, the needs of the service make it necessary to reassign certain personnel at this time. Brigadier General Burton O. Lewis, whom I am sure will be as acceptable to the Associated Industries of Massachusetts as Colonel Crawford, has been assigned to that station. There has been no reassignment up to this time of Colonel Clement, but I can assure you that in the event of such reassignment, a suitable replacement will be assigned to New York Ordnance District." In very good to fine condition, with light overall creasing, a few small stains, and two rusty paperclip impression.
