Shaffner, in full: "Please accept my sincerest thanks for the generous message which you sent me on the occasion of the opening of the Vatican Radio Station, and my deep appreciation of the kind thought which prompted your action." In very good to fine condition, with some mailing-related creasing. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Set up by Marconi, Vatican Radio began broadcasting with the callsign HVJ on two shortwave frequencies using 10 kilowatts of power on February 12, 1931, with the pontifical message 'Omni creaturae' of Pope Pius XI.
