Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 15.75 x 19.5, December 11, 1896. President Cleveland appoints Abraham V. Zane as "Chief Engineer in the Navy with the relative rank of Lieutenant." Signed at the conclusion by President Cleveland and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Hilary A. Herbert. The blue Navy Department seal affixed at the bottom remains fully intact. In very good to fine condition, with light toning and wrinkling.
