Description

"I consider Grieg's work of a very inferior kind"

French composer and teacher (1851-1931) best known for his 'Symphony on a French Mountain Air.' ALS in French, one page, 4.5 x 7, black-bordered mourning stationery, November 9, 1907. D'Indy offers a damaging opinion of Edvard Grieg, in part (translated): "I do not know how to lie when it comes to my artistic feelings. As I consider Grieg's work of a very inferior kind and without any signs of developing musical art I would not be honest in giving my name to the committee patronizing him. I would seem to be giving my approval, at least in our country, which would be completely useless." In fine condition, with light toning from prior display.
