TLS in German, one page, 8.5 x 11, November 7, 1954. Letter to Alice K. Orlan, in part (translated): "Obviously, you have read The Deceived in its original German version. You thus reveal your command of this language which I shall use in responding with gratitude to your letter…In reality, the story of my novel is quite new, despite the fact that it portrays life in the twenties…It is quite correct that I did interrupt my work on the novel to turn to the story of Frau von Tuemmler which had been conveyed to me a short anecdote. I was absorbed by nature's demonic malice that was revealed and I felt a certain spiritual affinity to the topic which I pursued as exhibited in this little volume." In fine condition. Accompanied by an English translation and a copy of Orlan's letter.
