Description

Desirable book: Three Years Travels Throughout the Interior Parts of North America by Capt. Jonathan Carver. Later printing. Charlestown and Boston: Printed by Samuel Etheridge for West and Greenleaf, 1802. Rebound hardcover, 4.25 x 6.75, 312 pages. Condition: VG/None, with 19th-century annotations to original endpapers, which have been laid down to modern endpapers in the new binding; a "Gordon W. Jones, M. D., Falmouth, Virginia" bookplate is affixed inside the cover. Capt. Jonathan Carver's account of his travels along the Mississippi River through present-day Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa was first published in 1778; it describes the geography and fauna of the these 'northwest' regions of North America, as well as a "concise history of the genius, manners, and customs of the Indians."
