Notorious criminal (1890-1963) who, while imprisoned, became a self-educated authority on birds and earned the nickname 'The Birdman of Alcatraz.' ALS in pencil, signed “Bob, Robert Stroud #594,” one page both sides, 8 x 10.5, June 24, 1946. Letter written from Alcatraz, signed at the head and at the conclusion, in part: "No, Sis, I do not want you to send me any money. I don't need it nearly so badly as you do…I know that it must be pretty hard to buy things now, but that condition should be corrected soon. The new wheat crop is coming in now, and I see by the magazines that they expect everything to be in full production by the first of the year…I have found it very hard to buy books. Of the last three books I ordered, the report came back that all of them were out of print." In fine condition.
