German theologian and Lutheran pastor (1892-1984) who is best known for his opposition to the Nazi regime during the 1930s. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, March 23, 1947. Letter to Dr. Charles S. Macfarland of the World Council of Churches, in part: "Let me thank you most heartily for your article as well as especially for the book 'I was in Prison.' I had no idea that a great part of my letters written in prison and camp had come to America and Christian people in this country in this way; but most I was interested in your 'Open Letter To Adolf Hitler' of June 1937, which I did not yet know. We have at the present moment a most agreeable and needed time of recovery here in Buck hill, and we enjoy each single day as seldom any period in our lives." In fine condition, with some light creasing and several vertical folds.
