Description

Brad Delp's red Mead songwriting notebook, 8 x 10.5, containing nine pages of his handwritten working lyrics on seven sheets, some of which appears to be unpublished material. These are predominately yearning ballads on unrequited love executed in Delp's typical lyrical style, with known songs including RTZ's 'Talk to Me' and 'Rise Above it All.' Some excerpts include: "You gave me your number / And when I try to call you / that phone it keeps on ringing"; "You tell me you love me / love me with all your heart / (right from the start) / Now you must let go / Is it your head or heart / It's tearing me apart"; "I know your heart is broken / I know your mind is made up / so you hide away your heart / That's a better way to start." On the back cover of the notebook, Delp has written an unusual series of words, which have been struck through—perhaps a free-association song-writing exercise. The notebook is thin, with many pages having been removed. In very good to fine condition, with some creasing, and other signs of use and wear. From the Brad Delp Collection, and accompanied by a letter of provenance from Micki Delp.
