Description

The pioneering plastic surgeon writes of a “graft”

First surgeon to devote his entire practice to plastic surgery (1824-1885), whose method of skin grafting is known today as the 'Davis graft.' Partial ALS, one page, 8.25 x 5.25, personal letterhead, no date. The final page of a longer letter, in part: "complete takes, that is ¾ or over, & the majority were entirely healed when discharged—4 in 6 cases about ½ the graft took, & in 3 cases only a few islands took. The failures all followed wound infections….The sloughing of the tip of the axillary flap seemed to have little or no effect on the healing of the graft—Should you require any more detailed report I shall be glad to give it to you—Hoping the above will be of use to you." In fine condition.
