Description

Fully signed debut album from Buddy Holly and the Crickets

The 'Chirping' Crickets album signed on the front cover in black ballpoint by Buddy Holly, Jerry Allison, Joe Mauldin, and Tom Bruno. This is the first Brunswick pressing, identified by its textured cover and error ('Bullock' for 'Lubbock') in the notes about Holly's birthplace on the reverse. In very good condition, with some surface scratches, wear and tape to the edges, the young collector's name and address on an affixed piece of tape, and poor signature contrast against the blue background. The record is included. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original recipient, which reads, in part: "In October of 1958, I was a teenager working for a radio station in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada…and I had the opportunity to attend a rock & roll show, held at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. Because I was with the radio station, I was able to gain access to the dressing rooms of some of the performers on the show. The performers on that particular night were, Buddy Holly and the Crickets, J. P. Richardson (the Big Bopper), Jimmy Clanton, Frankie Avalon, Ritchie Valens and Little Anthony & The Imperials. I had taken a copy of the Crickets first album…with me to the show, and I asked Buddy Holly and the other Crickets to autograph the album. Niki Sullivan, who is on the left, had left the group in late 1957. The person who played that night, signed over Niki's picture. His name is Tom Bruno. I have had the album in my possession since that night…Unfortunately, Buddy Holly, J. P. Richardson and Ritchie Valens were killed in a tragic plane crash on February 3, 1959." Also accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA, an image of the original recipient posing with Buddy Holly in the dressing room, and a copy of an article from the Peterborough Examiner showing the same image.
