DS, one page, 7.5 x 10.25, May 16, 1946. Agreement between Chandler and Paramount Pictures for him to render services "in connection with an assignment…tentatively entitled The Innocent Mrs. Duff." Floridly signed at the conclusion by Chandler in fountain pen, and countersigned by two Paramount representatives. Beautifully double-matted and framed with a photo from the 1944 film Murder, My Sweet, to an overall size of 24.5 x 17.5. In very good to fine condition, with creasing to the upper right corner area. This was to be a screen adaptation of Elisabeth Sanxay Holding's story of the same title, but Chandler struggled in his efforts. Despite his love for the original story—Chandler considered Holding the best mystery writer of them all—by the end of May he was already irritated by the project, writing in a letter to James Sandoe of the task, 'I'm bored with it already…the business of adapting things for the screen is more work than it is worth.' The screenplay was never finished.
