American soldier and statesman (1739-1812) who served as governor of New York and vice president in the Jefferson and Madison administrations. Partly-printed DS, signed “Geo: Clinton,” one page, 12.5 x 7.5, March 5, 1793. As governor of New York, Clinton appoints Nathan Jones an "Ensign of a Company in the Regiment of Militia, in the County of Orange." Signed below the white paper seal in the left border by Clinton, and countersigned by secretary Lewis A. Scott. Framed to a slightly larger size. In very good condition, with wrinkling, light toning, and a seal-related stain.
