Desirable grouping of six checks from the first half of the 19th century, each signed by a notable early American figure, including: Louis McLane, Secretary of State and Secretary of the Treasury under Andrew Jackson; Albert Gallatin, noted diplomat and Secretary of the Treasury under Thomas Jefferson; J. R. Poinsett, scientist, diplomat, and Secretary of War for whom the poinsettia flower is named; Timothy Pickering, Secretary of State under George Washington; Duff Green, Democratic publisher and iron producer for the Confederacy; and Commodore David Porter, commander of the USS Constitution who fought in the Barbary Wars and War of 1812. In overall fine condition.
