TLS signed “J. M. Wainwright,” one page, 8 x 10.5, Headquarters, Eastern Defense Command letterhead, October 27, 1945. Letter to Miss Virginia Doyle, in part: "I wish to thank you for your kind interest in my welfare and for following my career since Corregidor. The wonderful reception extended me by the American people since my return to my native country I consider as being accorded through me to all the members of my command who fell at Corregidor." In fine condition. While commanding troops at Corregidor earlier in 1945, Wainwright had been forced to surrender and was then held in prison camps in Luzon, Formosa, and Liaoyuan until his liberation by the Red Army in August 1945.
