ALS, one page, 5.5 x 8, Johnson & Poe law firm letterhead, July 21, 1881. Letter to Marcus Joseph Wright, a former Confederate general and the subsequent collector of southern documents for the US War Department. In part: "I want to see you & with you examine some of the Maryland Muster Rolls in the Record office with you. Appoint a place & time to meet me." Professionally inlaid into a larger sheet and in fine condition.
