Civil War-related manuscript DS, signed “Corp'l Geo. C. Carson,” one page, 8 x 12.5, no date. A statement of gallantry for Major General Samuel Wylie Crawford for his actions at the Battle of Gettysburg, in full: "The undersigned Officers and Privates in Company K. of the first Regiment of the Pennsylvania Reserve Corps. hereby in justice to Maj. General S. W. Crawford that he may have the credit and honor due him for his gallantry in the Battle of Gettysburg, certify that they were present at and took part in the Battle of Gettysburg with said Company on the 2nd 3rd & 4th days of July 1863. That the said first Regiment chased the rebels from in front of the Little Round top across Plum run and the Swamp to the Stone fence, and that in said charge Maj. Gen'l. S. W. Crawford commanding the 3rd Division of the 5th Army Corps to which said first Regiment was attached, rode in front of the Regiment, seized the regimental colors, and cheered the men to the charge, carrying the colors across Plum run and the swamp to the stone fence. The undersigned make this statement from personal observation." Signed at the conclusion by Corporal Carson. In fine condition, with some light soiling. A rare reference to Crawford’s role in repulsing the Confederate attack at Gettysburg’s Peach Orchard on July 2nd.
