Description

Queen Consort to Edward VII of England (1844-1925) and mother of George V. Mounted matte-finish 4.25 x 6 silver gelatin photo of Queen Alexandra wearing the royal crown, signed on the photo in ink, "Alexandra." In very good to fine condition, with faint silvering, clipped corners, and poor signature contrast.

Alexandra of Denmark was Queen Consort of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions; and, as wife of King Edward VII, Empress of India. Born into the Danish Royal family, the daughter of King Christian of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg, she was betrothed to Albert Edward (then Prince of Wales) at the tender age of 16 and married in March 1863 at Windsor Castle. She was Princess of Wales from 1863 until Edward’s accession to the throne in 1901 after the death of Queen Victoria. She bore six children—Albert Victor (Albert Victor Christian Edward), George (later George V), Louise, Victoria, Maud, and John.
