ALS signed “Jeff: Amherst,” one page, 7.25 x 8.75, March 22, 1776. Written from the "Office of Ordnance," a letter to Major Williams, in full: "I am very glad that by some Incidents which have been laid before the Board, which did not appear before this day, that the Board think themselves justified in recommending Staff Pay for you and in allowing you a Boat, on so important an occasion and Service as you are going on, in which I most heartily wish you all the Success and good health you can desire."
