Description

English criminal (1771/72-1841) who attempted to assassinate King George III in 1800, but was acquitted of attempted murder by reason of insanity. Strange autograph poem, signed "James Hadfield," one page, 7.25 x 4.5, October 3, 1806. In full: "The remains of little Dick my partner Dear, / Who with his vocal lay's did of't my Spritis Cheer / But giving his food one fatal Day; / He in the Cage'd wire Caught his Cl'a, / He flutter'd trembled panted, and then down he ly'd, / I took him up and in my hand he Died." Affixed to a slightly larger card. In very good condition, with light staining and wrinkling, and paper loss to two corner tips.
