Help! original motion picture soundtrack album signed on the front cover in blue felt tip by George Harrison and Paul McCartney, in black felt tip by Ringo Starr, and on the back cover in blue felt tip by George Martin. In very good to fine condition, with overall light soiling and scuffing. The record is included. Inspired by the Goon Show and the Marx Brothers classic Duck Soup, Help! saw the Fab Four tackling comedy with a James Bond twist, fending off an evil cult from seizing a sacrificial ring attached to Ringo’s hand. The enormous premiere was attended by Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon and the Earl of Snowdon, and despite not earning as rave reviews as A Hard Days Night, the film has since been credited for influencing the development of music videos.
Reflecting solemnly on Harrison’s reluctance to sign following John Lennon’s 1980 murder at the hands of one-time autograph seeker Mark David Chapman, Brennan remembers “I only met him around the time of his solo album (Cloud Nine), a small window of time. He wasn’t against signing, per se; he was against getting killed.” Of Harrison, John says, “He was extremely reclusive. I saw him at Heathrow airport in 1988, and near a HandMade Films set; I saw him in NYC at the studio with Clapton in the late 1980s.” And chillingly, when Brennan asked for his autograph Harrison remarked, “Sure…As long as you’re not going to kill me.” From The John Brennan In-person Autograph Collection.
