Description

Free franked mailing envelope, 5.5 x 3.5, addressed in Adams's hand to "Ephraim Kirby Esqr., Brownville, New York," and franked in the upper right, "J. Q. Adams." Cloth-matted and framed with an engraving to an overall size of 12.75 x 15.75. In very good to fine condition, with an opening-related tear passing through the address area. Kirby was a Revolutionary War soldier who published the first volume of law reports in the United States, served as the first General High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons of the United States, and was the first judge of the Superior Court of the Mississippi Territory.
