Description

American competition swimmer, Olympic champion, and former world record-holder in five events (1905-2003), who became the first woman to swim across the English Channel. Vintage matte-finish 11 x 14 studio portrait of Ederle in a half-length pose by the Mitchell Studio of New York, signed and inscribed in white fountain pen, "To—'Jewell,' Best always, Swimmingly yours, Gertrude Trudy Ederle, New York, World's Fair, 1939.” In fine condition. Ederle photos of this size are particularly rare.
