Eccentric blues pianist, singer and whistler (1899-1989) who is best remembered for his recordings of 'Across the Atlantic Ocean' and 'Black Eyed Peas and Hog Jowls.' Three handwritten letters signed multiple times within the text, "Alex Moore" and "Whistlin Alex Moore," five total pages, each approximately 8.25 x 6.5, stamp-dated between 1971 and 1984. Each letter is addressed to Ray Avery at Rare Records in Glendale, California, and consists of Moore requesting hard-to-find books, photos, records by Johnny Guarnieri, Lloyd Glenn, Hank Jones, and Blind Norris McHenry, and adding various career and biographical information. In overall very good to fine condition, with scattered light creasing, and some old tape to one of the letters. Accompanied by four original mailing envelopes, each addressed in his own hand by Moore, who incorporates his signature in the return address field of two envelopes.
