American astronomer (born 1943) who is currently the Senior Astronomer for the SETI Institute. Two items: a color glossy 8 x 10 half-length photo of Shostak against a blue SETI Institute backdrop, signed in black felt tip; and an ALS, one page, 8.5 x 11, no date, in full: "I'm glad to hear that your favorite class in school is science. Like you, I too found science a favorite subject because it explains things. These days I work at the SETI Institute here in California's Silicon Valley. We haven't found any life beyond Earth so far, but I think it's likely that we will—and you could be the one to do it! Good luck with school, and watch out for alligators!. In overall very fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, and a personal SETI Institute business card belonging to Shostak, who has signed the card in blue ink.
