Two items: a color glossy 8 x 10 half-length photo of Shostak against a blue SETI Institute backdrop, signed in black felt tip; and an ALS, one page, 8.5 x 11, no date, in full: "I'm glad to hear that your favorite class in school is science. Like you, I too found science a favorite subject because it explains things. These days I work at the SETI Institute here in California's Silicon Valley. We haven't found any life beyond Earth so far, but I think it's likely that we will—and you could be the one to do it! Good luck with school, and watch out for alligators!.
