Description

Supremely important naturalist (1743-1820), best remembered for his expedition to Newfoundland and Labrador, his participation in James Cook's first great voyage, and his role as President of the Royal Society for over four decades. Rare ink signature with salutation, "I have the honor to be, [wi]th unaffected gratitude & esteem, your Lordship's obedient & most hble servant, Jos: Banks,” on an off-white 4.75 x 2.25 slip clipped from the close of a letter. Affixed to a slightly larger card and in fine condition. This is only the second Banks autograph we have offered.
