Description

On his first Euro tour, CJ Ramone takes home a piece of the Berlin Wall

Fantastic grouping of three items CJ Ramone obtained from Berlin, Germany during the Ramones' 1989 European Tour, including: an original 5.25 x 4.25 x 1 chunk of spray-painted concrete from the Berlin Wall; a metal belt buckle, 2.5 x 1.75, with embossed national emblem of East Germany; and a gray East German Army garrison cap, measures 11 x 4.5 folded, with embroidered emblem to front and interior bearing original faded tag. In overall fine condition. Accompanied by a 12-page itinerary packet for the Ramones' 12-concert tour of Germany, Belgium, and Holland between November 22 and December 4, 1989, as well as a color glossy 5 x 3.5 photo of an East German soldier peering through a hole in the Berlin Wall.

After four consecutive concert nights in Germany, the Ramones earned a day off when they traveled to Berlin to play at the Eissporthalle on November 26th. The breach of the Berlin Wall only weeks prior continued to dominate current world news, and both Johnny and CJ—the latter on his first European tour as a member of the Ramones—were eager to take home a piece of history. The duo struck up a conversation with a friendly East German soldier who proceeded to sell CJ his belt buckle and garrison cap. They took his photograph and were then handed a sledgehammer, with CJ chipping off the piece now offered here. From the collection of bassist CJ Ramone, and accompanied by a signed letter of provenance.
