Description

German theoretical physicist (1901-1976) awarded the 1932 Nobel Prize in physics for the creation of quantum mechanics. TLS in German, one page, 8.25 x 5.75, Max Planck Institute for Physics letterhead, September 2, 1953. Letter to Mrs. Hartmann, in full (translated): "Unfortunately for the foreseeable future I am so overloaded with other works that I will not be able to accept the invitation of the Hersfelder Kulturbund. So I ask you to apologize for my refusal." In fine condition, with two file holes to the left edge. The year he wrote this letter, Heisenberg was appointed president of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation by Konrad Adenauer, serving in that role until 1975. Also, in 1953, Heisenberg began to focus his theoretical work on the unified field theory of elementary particles.
