Prince's handwritten draft of the lyrics for "Mutiny" in blue ballpoint and pencil, unsigned, one page, 8 x 10.5, no date but circa 1984. The lyrics begin: "Mutiny say I'm takin' over / You got 2 give up the ship, got 2 take a little trip / they're takin' over / you gotta 2 give up the ship, shoulda been a little mo' hip." Later, he indicates that the "Get Off Chorus" is sung. In fine condition, with frayed notebook holes to the left edge. From the collection of Gwen Leeds, Prince’s assistant tour manager from 1984 to 1988, who notes that Prince would frequently hand write song lyrics in notebooks and then ask that they be typed and supplied for registering and licensing.
"Mutiny” was recorded for the 1985 album The Family, a protégé band that included St. Paul Peterson, Susannah Melvoin, Eric Leeds, Jerome Benton, and Gary 'Jellybean' Johnson. Prince frequently performed the song himself, as early as his Parade tour in 1986. “Mutiny” was officially credited to Jerome Benton, although it was actually composed by Prince. From The Gwen Leeds Prince Collection.
