American jazz tenor saxophonist (1904-1969), nicknamed 'Hawk' and occasionally 'Bean,' who was strongly associated with the swing music and big band era, and played a role in the development of bebop in the 1940s. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 James J. Kriegsmann of New York publicity photo of Hawkins in a head-and-shoulders pose, signed in green fountain pen, "Best wishes, Coleman Hawkins." In very good condition, with creases and bends, a small staple hole under the signature, and loss to the top border which could easily be matted out. A desirable uninscribed example boasting a particularly bold signature.
