French physicist, astronomer, and mathematician (1774-1862) who established the reality of meteorites, made an early balloon flight, and studied the polarization of light. ALS in French, signed “Biot,” one page, 5 x 7.75, January 12, 1828. Untranslated letter to Alexis Bouvard, director of the Paris Observatory, mentioning a barometer, thermometer, and hygrometer. In very good to fine condition, with some strange toning along the left edge, apparently caused by onetime exposure to another letter.
