Description

Pair of ALSs by the father-and-son astronomers: an ALS signed "James Glaisher," three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7.25, no date, in part: "I am much obliged for the observations on Natural History, which you have so kindly collected & sent to me. I shall be glad indeed if you will discuss your whole series of observations"; and an ALS signed "J. W. L. Glaisher," two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.25 x 7, January 20, 1880, in part: "I think it would be best if you would kindly send it direct to the printers, telling them to set it up & send proof to you." In overall fine condition. James Glaisher (1809-1903) was an English meteorologist, aeronaut, and astronomer, who in 1862 broke the world record for altitude in a balloon; his son, James Whitbread Lee Glaisher (1848-1928), was a prolific mathematician and astronomer.
