The consignor of this lot stated he “just bought packs for the gum” and “liked opening up stuff.” Basically, the fun part of the hobby. Our consignor did open up over 6,500 cards worth of packs back in 1973, with the cards having been stored in the original display boxes ever since.
These cards have never experienced any long term handling, this lot fills out nearly eleven 660 count boxes with one of these full boxes and about a third of another being team checklist cards. Since being stored for the better part of the last 45 years in the boxes which originally held the wax packs, there are about 20% that exhibit minor imperfections due to shifting. There are certainly enough cards to assemble at least 7 sets, and with a little searching, a half dozen more could eventually be made.
Key cards include: 1 Rushing Leaders (17), 15 Bradshaw (17), 20 Johnson (16), 32 Kearney (12), 34 Anderson RC (17), 60 Tarkenton (14), 77 Shell RC (15), 89 Harris RC (17), 100 Csonka (15), 115 Ham RC (17), 140 White RC (11), 167 Culp RC (10), 280 Greene (15), 322 Dierdorf RC (15), 343 Youngblood (14), 355 Plunkett (18), 400 Namath (8 inc. 3 with factory creases), 455 Unitas (11), 475 Staubach (7), 487 Stabler RC (10) and 500 Simpson (9). Overall NM to NM/MT condition with about 20% lesser, and countless examples which would be candidates for third party grading.
