Description

Set of five TLSs, signed “J. Edgar Hoover” and “J. E. Hoover,” five pages in total, FBI and United States Department of Justice letterhead, dated between 1943 and 1960. The first four are addressed to L. Earle LeMont, and the last to Mary Spargo. The earliest, dated January 4, 1943, in part: “Your letter of December 30, 1942, has been received and I wanted you to know that I appreciate very much your expressions of commendation concerning our work in connection with the apprehension of the Touhy Gang.” The LeMont letters are individually affixed to black 9.5 x 11.75 scrapbook pages; the reverse of two scrapbook pages bear affixed letters, one signed by Maine Governor Louis Brann, and the other bearing a printed signature from Winston Churchill. In overall fine condition.
